ARDMURDO / KEITHHALL FISHINGS ( 2004 information ) Nearest town or village: Inverurie Description: The Keithhall Fishings cover about 1400 yards of left bank fishing and begin at the point where the River Ury joins the Don, directly below the Inverurie Burgh Fishings. Much of Keithhall is tree lined and needs some roll casting, but the water is deep and holds good trout. As you near the paper mill on the opposite bank, you come into open ground and some streamier water that fishes well, also good for sea trout. Try wading across to the island and fishing down the far side where you will find two good pools. When you get to the bottom of the island, return to the bank and fish down through the first streamy run known as Danderhall. This is the bottom of the Keithhall fishings. The first section of the Ardmurdo Fishings is known as Tom's Stream and is excellent fly water. The river picks up speed and gets deeper as it makes its way down to the right hand bend and then enters the pool known as the Buckie Pool. From here the river widens and the flow slows down a bit, but from the Buckie to the bottom of the beat there are no less than nine good pools! This is nice open water that can produce fish all the way down and is mostly good wading as long as you take a bit of care. The bottom of the beat is clearly marked at the point where it meets the top of the Kintore Fishings. The Ardmurdo / Keithhall Fishings are run by Inverurie Angling Association as a syndicate water, but limited visitor day permits are made available. The most productive flies for brown trout are: Wet or dry Greenwells, March Brown, B.W.O., Blue Dun, light and dark Olives.
