The Monymusk Fishings
The Monymusk Estate Fishings consist of 13 beats over 10 miles of the River Don with 24 named pools. This stretch of the River Don has an excellent reputation and is very popular with visitors.
Daily permits must be obtained from, and payments made to the Hotel reception before fishing, or the beat may be re-let. After Fishing, please give details of all catches, including NIL returns, to the Hotel.
The maximum number of rods per beat is two, preferably one for salmon and one for trout, except Beats 4, 5 and 12 which are single rod beats. The ends of the beats are clearly marked with white posts and sign boards and two of the beats have fishing huts. Fishers must remain on their allocated beat(s), as indicated on the map(s) issued. Permits will be checked on a daily basis by the Monymusk Estate bailiff. Failure to comply with this rule will result in the cancellation and withdrawal of the Hotel Fishing Permit.
All fishing must be carried out by fly fishing only. All other methods of fishing are not permitted. Fishing may only be carried out from Monday to Saturday in any week and there is no fishing on Sundays. The length of the fishing day is from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset.
Please do NOT kill any salmon unless you really have to. All unfit and red salmon must be returned to the river. All hen salmon caught after the 30th June must be returned to the river. All trout under 12" (30cms) or over 2lbs (800gms) must be returned to the river immediately. The trout bag is limited to six per day. Any examination of the stomach contents of fish, including 'pumping' or 'scooping,' can only be done when it is / they are dead.
