Loch Insch fishery

Loch Insch is one of the most popular fisheries in the area. The fishing is excellent, with hard fighting rainbows, a scenic location, and three lochs plus a junior pond to try your luck on.

The lochs cover 11 acres and are stocked with rainbows from 1½ lbs to well into double figures.

The fishery has an enviable reputation for stocking large rainbows and these are caught on a regular basis. There are plenty of double figure fish and some of these are 20 pounders!

Make sure you have buzzers in your fly box as they work well on all three lochs. But don't worry if you haven't got any, as you will find a good selection of flies and fishing tackle for sale in the hut.

Facilities include a nice hut with kitchen, toilets, tea and coffee, picnic tables, barbecue, and access for the disabled is good.

The largest rainbow trout caught in 1999 weighed in at 23lbs 5oz!

HOW TO GET THERE FROM INVERURIE

Located eleven miles from Inverurie, take the A96 to Inverness road and you will go under a railway bridge with traffic lights, past the villages of Pitcaple and Old Rayne, then you will see the fishery sign on your left at the end of a long straight piece of road before you reach Colpy. Allow fifteen minutes by car.
