Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The beginning of the week saw horrendous fishing conditions with gale force winds accompanied by heavy, persistent rain. The effects of the weather conditions were that as well as being incompatible for anglers, the water also became fairly coloured. However, after Wednesday, conditions improved and the back end of the week yielded good catches and saw a continuance of the success of the dry fly and other smaller presentations. The best recorded catches for this period fell to; A Murray, Gardenstown, 34 fish over multiple visits, (white fritz, budgie), J Kerr, Macduff, 18 fish, (buzzers), P Watt, Gardenstown, 11 fish, (grey nymph), J West, Fraserburgh, 8 fish, (cormorant), I Watt, Turriff, 7 fish, (dry flies), S McLean, Fraserburgh, 6 fish, (black lure), D Bain, Glasgow, 5 fish, (montana), J Gough, Fraserburgh, 5 fish, (dry flies), B Burnett, Turriff, 5 fish, (dry flies).

The forecast for the coming period suggests settled conditions and hopefully the fish will settle to predictable feeding patterns.
