Goosanders on the Dee

I was down on the Dee yesterday afternoon for a walk and I came across a family of Goosanders.

Cut a very long story short, between the two adults they caught around 10-12 fish in about an hour. Some fish were too big to swallow, including what looked like a sea Trout of about 2 pounds that got away after perhaps 20 or 30 seconds of the bird trying to turn it to swallow. I would have thought it would have had some nasty wounds.

I was amazed that two relatively small birds took so many fish in that time, and the size of what they were catching were anything from 10oz or so through to the sea trout.
