Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

Howard & Stuart

The past week has seen a lift in daytime temperatures and a bit of warmth in the sun.

The clear skies however have led to overnight frosts and the ice that these created did curtail the fishing at Lochter Fishery, Oldmeldrum.

At the time of writing this has nearly all gone and with a couple more mild and breezy days in prospect, all the lochs should be ice free. There were plenty of anglers out trying to latch into some of the big overwintered trout and during the week there were some fine trout landed.

The two Goodbrands had an excellent day. Using lures they had fish up to 10lbs and kept six, releasing a further ten. Also getting into double figures was Pete Green who had ten including one at 6lb+, all were tempted by an okey dokey. The redoubtable Davy Wood used a mix of wsw's and blobs to bank eleven. He kept three and returned eight. Nymphs and bloodworms were the choice of John Roberts and seven nice fish agreed with his selection while A Murdoch also tempted seven with his black tadpole. Ron Mead and Peter Young had six each and reported that it was "nice to be oot ". You can't say fairer than that.
