Following on from their success in hosting the Stillwater International Final 2013, Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum was the venue on Sunday for the latest SANA Stillwater Qualifier. The top four anglers in each heat will go forward to compete for a place in the Scottish team to defend their International title later in the year. After a very close competition the four qualifying anglers were Richard McHattie, Kevin Neri, John Brown and Dylan Anderson. Well done and good luck to them in the remainder of the challenge.
Buzzers were the most successful flies in the qualifier as the weather had warmed up a bit but earlier in the week with water temperatures still very low lures did best. Davy Wood had eight on WSW`s, Bruce Whyte had one at 9lbs and another at 6lb plus in his bag on nine again on a wsw. Charlie Currie had a terrific day with thirteen mainly on white and green lures while S Cameron topped the scoring chart with sixteen all on a bunny leech. Buzzers did have their moments during the week with Chris Fraser and Ross Middleton  landing seven each. Other flies which are working well included the consistent damsel nymph which Richard Ovington used to successfully grass eight nice fish.
The trout are in cracking condition with plenty of overwintered specimens to test the knot strength of the anglers casts and the regular stocking of grown on fish has ensured that there are plenty of fish to catch .All anglers have to do is work out how best to catch them and they will have a chance to test their skills in the Lochter Spring Singles (The Springles) on Sunday 27th April. Entries/Inquiries to the fishery on 01652 872787 or 872000.
