Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

Another week where the fishing conditions are suffering from a lack of rain water with only the occasional shower to "tickle up" activity. Thankfully the conditions have been more overcast which has resulted in a drop in water temperature in spite of the prolonged sunny periods. Dry fly activity has been more rewarding with sedges and daddys accounting for catches but the changeable overhead conditions have interrupted the hatches and have led to buzzers being the best choice for the week.
The best recorded catches this week were;
A Murray, Gardenstown, 23 fish, (cat's whiskers/olive fritz), D Stewart, Aberdeen, 13 fish, (buzzers), N Thomson, Turriff, 8 fish, (buzzers), G Weir, Banff, 7 fish, (CDC hopper), G Ellington, Ellon, 6 fish, (buzzers), J Chalmers, St Fergus, 6 fish, (buzzers), J Finnie, Peterhead, 6 fish, (buzzers), L Harris, Aberdeen, 6 fish, (olive nymph).
The use of a gold lead buzzer has been more productive as the fish are feeding deeper during "bright light" conditions and the colour olive has also featured prominently in reports.
Delgatie Castle is a Troutmaster water and is open seven days from 8:00am with closing times variable according to conditions but at present remains at 8:30-9:30pm.
Visitors and learners are welcome and boats (where required) rods and tackle is available for hire at the fishery. For further information phone Bob on 07980 999 006. :z15
