Days for Catching Butterflies.

This fine spell of weather is maybe suiting the sun worshippers but it is making things testing for anglers. As one old angler was heard to mutter as he returned all hot and sweaty to the bothy  “ It`s a day for catching butterflies nae troot”At Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum there have been clouds of flies hatching during the warm evenings and the trout have been gorging themselves on them. As a result the fish have been picky during the day and although anglers have seen plenty of surface activity persuading these well fed trout to take an artificial fly has proved problematic.
Early in the week before things really warmed up Scott Cooper from Peterhead had a great day with thirteen on nomads and buzzers and J Donaldson from Inverurie netted twelve on olive buzzers.
As the week progressed dries and emergers came more into play John Spence used CDC`s and shipmans to successfully tempt nine and Harry Hughes used a similar set up to catch and release eight..J Watt had ten on an assortment of flies and George Wilson eight on dries.
Successful in the third leg of the £1000 Summer Series fished on Sunday were Ernie Mackay,Ernest Mackay and Brian Ross .They now go through to the final in October .There are still two more legs of the competition to go so anglers still have plenty of opportunity to qualify and have a go for the prize money.
