Opening day,Friday 23rd march.

All the 6 boats are now in ready for the opening day on this 13 acre loch. The water is crystal clear and looking well.Stocking has begun with plenty of fish going in,including Blues. The wild browns have done well with alot of shoals of fry showing the water is healthy and the fish are thriving.Fish are from 1and half pounds to 5pounds in weight and a couple of larger fish will go in through the season. The aim of the lochs is for anglers to enjoy good sport and the peace and tranquility and not the how big or how many.Anyone who has ever fished here will understand just what these lochs are able to offer an angler.

We hope that anglers will enjoy the lochs and the sport just the same as we do.

The deepest of the water goes down to around 17 ft and there is no bank fishing.2 tubes will be allowed in the top loch only and nets are not required as 1 is supplied along with lifejackets for each boat.Electric engines can be used if you have one.Boats are 15 ft lomond boats and clean and tidy.Booking is required and through the Glen of rothes which is manned 7 days a week.

Thanks Rob.

All ready to go now, last load of Blues went in and with the water being crystal clear the blue backs just shone through the water.
Nice to see these lochs alive again after being closed for so long.Got a nice bottle of 12 yr old macallans to open the water with.
Fish are in perfect condition and all fullfinned and tails and should do well.Alot of fry swimming about which shows the wild browns are doing well here and there should be some good ones in the water with it being over 37 yrs old.

We always find it hard to pull oursleves away from here as its so peacefull and tranquill and the wildlife is greta to watch.

Wind never seems to bother here as it has trees all around it .

It is not intended as a big fish water, its about the sport and enjoyment of the place.Main stock will be 1lb 8oz to 5lbs with the odd double here and there. All blues, browns to be returned.Nets are supplied and no use of own nets at all.

Best of luck Kevin, hoping to make an appearance soon.
Sadly can't attend opening day as away on family holiday.

Millbuies actually a good bit older than 37 Kev, this was about the time it was gifted to the people of Moray?

Records indicate it was a man made trout water before the war, during which it was drained to allow a fertile area to grow potatoes on (different slant on 'Fish and Chips' eh?) before reverting back to lochs again sometime a little after.

Fish will certainly thrive, good to know broonies are present.

Thanks Allan.Your right this is when the council took over the lochs.yes we saw alot of brownie fry in the water which was good to see and theres no doubt that some big browns will be lurking  after being around for so long.

Heres  a report  for the lochs.

The lochs open this week on Friday 23rd March and are looking good.We had a couple of hours out in the boat to see how well fish had spread out through the lochs and to get some pictures to show anglers what the quality of fish was like and what they can expect here. The fish are in prime condition and full of fight and the sport should be very good.Fish we found were deep and intermediate lines were required with cats whisker and wooly buggers taking the couple of fish we had as it was only a fact find and not a catch as many as we could exercise. There is no doubt more could have been caught, but that was not why we were there, but the fish and the lochs will certainly make anglers think and consider tactics to find fish with variation of depths throughout the lochs from 4ft to 17 ft,but when you catch it will be worth the effort. Here is a link to a video which may interest.

Here is the routine for Millbuies Trout Fishery.;__ Opening day only!! keys will be picked up at Millbuies for boats as it is the opening day.

After this the following routine will be operated. Morning boats pick up keys from the Glen of Rothes trout fishery which will be open at 8am.At the end of session a member of staff will be at Millbuies itself to sign anglers out and get keys from them. The evening session boats will then get the keys from the staff at Millbuies,

IF there is NO BOATS out in the morning session then keys are picked up from the Glen of rothes fishery.

At the end of the evening session if a member of staff is not there, keys are to be placed in the box provided at Millbuies fishery where we will collect them ,ready for the morning boats collection at the Glen of Rothes fishery.

Should an angler need to leave early all keys are to be put into the box provided at Millbuies trout fishery where we will pick them up later.

All fish must be recorded on leaving the fishery. We have tried to save as much as possible any travel to and from the Glen fishery.Staff will be around throughout the day as much as possible.
