Salmon fishing in the Yemen - the Movie

OK, I haven't read the book (should have, haven't, move on) but via another forum it seems we have a movie coming:

and

I will have to go and see this although trailer #1 in this post doesn't exactly fill me with confidence about the fishing side of things.... it might be worth watching nonetheless.

Those trailers look great. Didn't know it had been made into a movie and delighted that it's obviously got big names and budget. If it's good it will attract more interest to our obsession which would be great.

Hamish, there is not a lot of fishing in the book, but it is a central part.

OK, we have a few clips now and the film is looking good ....... but am I the only one trying to work out where the fishing scenes might have been filmed in Scotland?

Cheers

Now without giving the story away, there is a point in the book where somebody makes a pretty amazing cast :wink

In the film 'A River Runs Through It', Jason Borger was I believe the 'casting stuntman' that performed the great casts ....... I wonder who the 'casting stuntman' will be in this film?

I had to check something out..... but I think the fishing location in Scotland is the River Etive. Another possibility is the River Kinglass; both flow into Loch Etive just to the north of Oban.
I fished the Etive for a day more years ago than I care to remember, the scenery 'on location' looks familiar to me but I'm not 100% sure as it's been 26 years or so since I was there last. I didn't catch any Salmon that day :roll but did have a brace or two of Sea Trout.
Of the two, the Etive is more probable IMHO.

Well part of the third trailer is most deffinately Loch Laggan.....with "Glenbogle" castle...which of course is really Ardverikie House.

The "Yemen" bits are actually filmed in Morocco.

Never let it be said that I don't treat my wife like a princess. I took her to see "Salmon Fishing in Yemen" tonight. It isn't worth going to see it for the fishing aspects but it was a good comedy film. Worth going for a few laughs if nothing else.

Cheers Matt
