A transatlantic postal whinge

OK - in January I ordered two rods from a manufacturer in Canada (specialist stuff for trolling) because I'm a self-confessed tackle tart :wink

I put my hands up to the fact that the shipping prices scared the willies out of me :shock Didn't help that the rods in question are 9ft 2 piece jobs so the parcel is quite large. I opted for the second-cheapest surface mail option.
Anyway, the rods arrived today - after paying the import extortion rip off tax at Parcelforce.

Thing is, they were shipped surface post on the 21st of January (by the manufacturer) with a guarantee of delivery within 5 weeks of dispatch. They left Canada 'proper' on the 24th of January. Now mathematics has never been my strongest subject, but isn't that closer to 8 weeks :?

Has anyone else suffered these maladies or is just me :? 8 weeks :? FFS I could almost have rowed over there and picked them up in that time :shock Just seems a wee bit excessive - or is it me :? :!

The main thing is..... they're here, they're really good quality and I'm now itching to get out with them on a big loch after some Ferox and perhaps a 'silver tourist' or two

Sounds very annoying, I have never ordered any gear from over seas for fear of shipping issues and tax costs.  As I read your post thought you were going to say your two piece rods arrived to five pieces.

You know I hadn't looked at that Jim...good thinking... but having checked again all it says is 5 weeks.
Mind you, if you consider it as full working weeks..... maybe I've not got so much to grumble about :wink

To be honest that was what I was expecting to happen :!

Been sending quite a lot of fly lines over there and these are taking anything from 6 days to 4 weeks by airmail :roll

Cheers
Mike
