OK, swung past the Orvis shop on my way home from Aberdeen late this afternoon..... and the new Western 3 rods are just in  :z16
First impressions are top top quality bits of kit, nicely finished and the tip-flex models I looked at feel just right.

Unless Ben & Dave shift 'em all before the day at Haddo, I reckon folk will like them as much as I do.

Look out for the 10ft #7wt, I think it's going to be a peach of a rod, the 9.5ft #6wt feels damn good too.

I'm looking forward to this day more and more  :wink

Sorry Ben ,
Won't be able to make this.

I'll be down on the Tweed that weekend .

If there is another I'll try and be there .

Hi folks

The "Orvis Toy Day" is not far away now, so I guess some of you might have a better idea about whether you fancy coming along.

Apart from bringing lots of new Orvis toys for you to play with, Ben kindly offered to help folk with some casting tuition if they were fishing on the day. I have therefore kept 4 boats available, so we have space for 8 folk fishing at a time and I thought we could do something like ( fishing approx 9.30 to 1.30 at £10 ) and ( fishing approx 1.30 to 5.30 at £10 ) to give everybody a chance.

While we are playing with toys, don't forget that my demo fly lines will be there too, so if anybody wants to try any of these on their rods or an Orvis rod, please ask ....... and I'll take £2 off the lines on the day for those who like a bargain :wink

Please let me know if you would like to reserve one of the fishing sessions ......... and which session?

( 9.30 to 1.30 )
"Jedi" Jim
"nailchapper" Scott
"Birnie" Alan
Paul Black
"clark" Calum
"luckyshot66" Cameron
"dave23" Dave

..... "Ed"?

( 1.30 to 5.30 )
"skidd" Steven
Craig Harris
"Goolager" Iain

..... "Ed"?

Best wishes
Mike

PS: I would think that folk would check out the Orvis demos and do any instruction before or after their fishing session, so you might turn up at 9.30 and not fish until 1.30 etc :wink

Placing the "toy" order on Monday, if there are any particular rods anyone would like to try then post them here over the weekend and I will try to make sure they are there on the day.

Cheers

Played **cough** I actually mean tried out in a professional non-playing sort ot way :wink 2 of the new Western 3 rods today

Deeply impressive, IMHO the 10ft #7wt is a snip at the price.
A belting rod, one the sweetest 10ft #7wts I've picked up in a long time :z16
I suspect they'll go down well on the 15th  :z18

Does it feel like a helios :?

No, although I really like the build (perhaps more so than the equivilant Helios  :shock) this W3 is a very different tool - bloody good one too

please tell me it does  :wink :z4

Sorry, I can't tell you it does  :z10
Heavier (obviously) than the Helios and perhaps a bit slower in the hand. I really like it  :z3

any rod you would compare it to :?

Not really, although I certainly think the rods I tried were more than a match for considerably more expensive toys in the same class from other makes I've tried of late. On the grass, with a conventional WF#7 on the 10ft #7wt, the backing knot was rattling out most of the time yesterday, effortless
Roll on Haddo day, I'll get a 'hurl' on the water  :grin
Honestly, you'd need to try one yourself  :z16
I'm confident the Western 3 rods are in a whole different class to the W2 rods (and they were good), a good stepping stone before you get to the Helios.
