Fresh Don Salmon?
« on: 05/02/2009 at 21:10 »
Question for anyone knowledgeable of Spring Salmon fly fishing on the Don.......

I was looking at my fishing diary yesterday in a prelude to the 11th as, in my limited experience, it's almost always into the Trout Season before I get a sniff of a fresh fish.

Last year it was 19th April, 3rd & 31st May when I contacted fresh fish & I can't recall ever having a Spring Fish 'early doors'.

Anyone got any theories or comments?

About 19 years ago. My mate  caught the first fresh fish off Inverurie on the 12th of Feb, i caught the second and he caught the 3rd all in the space of 30 mins from the same pool. We also had 2 kelts.
This is still the only day's salmon fishing we've had when we have caught more than one fish.

The second earliest fresh fish I've caught was on the 25th March. Other than that it always been summer grilse on an evening on the dryfly
