Haddo Trout Fishery ( to April 28th )
« on: 27/04/2008 at 22:43 »
Hi folks

Diawl Bachs, Buzzers, Cormorants and Damsels have produced some great sport at Haddo this week :wink

Denis Mackay tempted 33 fish up to 11 lb for his session, Jim Adie had 29 up to 14 lb, Chris McAllister 25 up to 9 lb followed by 29 up to 12 lb a couple of days later, Gordon Mackay had 28 up to 10 lb, Ronnie Birnie 16 up to 9 lb, Alan Birnie 16 up to 7 lb and Hamish Young netted 16 fish up to 6 lb, with his boat partner Norrie catching 6 up to 13 lb.

Denis and Gordon from Inverness had not fished the loch before, but fished 3 times this week and released over 160 fish between them :shock

Surface activity has been good again this week, but the rise forms have not been easy to work out and most of the fish have been caught on nymphs :wink

Nice to see the Ospreys back, with a few lucky anglers seeing them in action

The above catches may make things look easy? ......... But don't be fooled, it takes a fair bit of skill to achieve catches like this :z4

Best wishes

Must confess that I always find the fishing reports a tad difficult to do, as they usually reflect the better catches and not necessarily the more fun elements of running a trout fishery :oops

A forum member comes along to drop off a rod for somebody with his tiny wee son with him ( a future angler in the making ) and another comes along to pick up the rod with a pack of biscuits to go with the coffee

Folk fishing the loch for the first time, a float tuber on his maiden voyage, an angler that relishes the wildlife, another comes to try a few fly lines and finds that his rod that won't cast is actually a bit of a gem after all.

Others are pleased to bits with catching a few fish ( not necessarily 10 or more ) some catch maybe one or two and lose "a cracker", Raymond Bowen caught 4 fish but one was 14½ lb, Chris McAllister with his Charr, Denis Mackay an awesome blue over 10 lb, Wilson Pirie with 11 fish up to 10 lb for his first session of the year and Norrie Young netting his largest ever trout at over 13 lb

And of course ........ the excitement of the final days of the winter league, where the winning is down to the very last entry :z16

Best wishes

Good stuff Mike , it may be a cliche , but there really is more to fishing than catching fish  :z15
