Castle Forbes is set on a magnificent site at the heart of the 6000 acre Forbes Estate. The castle was built in 1815 as a family home and overlooks the River Don. The family home is today occupied by Malcolm (The Master of Forbes) and his wife Jinny.
The fishings at Castle Forbes are situated halfway between the source of the River Don above Cockbridge and the river mouth at Aberdeen. The middle reaches of the river have some of the best fly fishing available on the River Don. If you are looking for some peace and space to enjoy your fishing to the full, then look no further!
The fishings consist of approximately 2½ miles on both banks and are divided in to four main beats. Two beats above Keig Bridge ( The largest single span bridge on the Don ) and two below it. There is also a further beat below these, north bank only and approximately half a mile long, which lies opposite the top beat of the Monymusk Fishings.
The main beats have approximately eight named salmon holding pools on each one and are let for a maximum of two salmon rods per beat at any one time.
Above Keig Bridge the river meanders through mainly open arable country to the east of the Vale of Alford. Below the bridge it is more secluded and picturesque as it makes its way through the park at Castle Forbes and follows a course close to the Lord's Throat on the south side of the hill of Bennachie.
