BARRIO FLY RODS NEWS UPDATE ( JANUARY 2010 )

I have been researching and developing a new Barrio fly rod design over the winter months, a project that is proving very exciting!

The new project is coming together nicely ….. and yes …… you can expect a very high quality product that is custom built in Scotland.

Watch this space!
Best wishes
Mike Barrio

BARRIO FLY RODS NEWS   ( JUNE 2009 )

Barrio Fly Rods have always been very much a joint project of "two lightline enthusiasts" ….. Sandy Nelson and myself ….. Sandy being the rodbuilder!

We have had tremendous fun designing and building these rods, which were initially for our own personal use. Then we made a couple for our friends …... and before we knew it, word of mouth had created quite a strong following for the Barrio Lightweight and we couldn't keep up with demand.

Unfortunately, we will no longer be able to build them, as we have run in to a slight problem …… Sandy has moved to the other side of the world!

I might explore the possibility of getting fly rods manufactured to "Barrio" specifications overseas, like most of the other fishing tackle companies do, but this will never be the same as building our own!

I will keep you updated of course, but for now …… A big thank you to Sandy for the endless hours of fun!

Best wishes
Mike Barrio

Barrio Lightweight

Aimed at the small stillwater and small to medium river angler, the "Barrio Lightweight" is a crisp, middle action fly rod, which for the technical flyfisher produces CCS figures of an AA of 50 and an ERN of 3.8

The tip section is built as lightly as possible to improve feel and sensitivity by speeding up the recovery rate. The use of light weight fine wire rings and low build epoxy help to keep the weight down and a nickel silver and hardwood reel seat with top quality cork add to the high quality finish.

It is a fly rod that will both flatter the novice and delight the expert, with it's easy, yet technically rewarding medium action and quick recovery.

A rod to cope with most species of trout, it has the backbone to play larger fish, but still emphasise the fun in playing the smaller ones.

Primarily designed with size 12 to 20 dry flies and spiders in mind, this fly rod will also cast a weighted nymph when necessary.

The Barrio loads best with a floating line in either DT3 or WF4 and allows the use of tippets from 2 to 6 lb with complete confidence.

This rod does the hard work for you, allowing you to concentrate on getting the fly to the correct spot.

So go on, experience the lighter side of life, control the cast, feel the fish, but most of all ………..

Just enjoy being out there!
